FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Utopia Foundation's mission is to help create a world where communities thrive and every person goes to bed feeling nourished, loved, happy and hopeful about tomorrow. As part of its mission, Utopia hopes to provide opportunities for champions to express their good intentions.

  • It is the philosophy of Utopia Foundation to support champions who march loudly off the beaten path. While many large charities successfully support projects in larger settings (big cities or communities), we hope to build meaningful relationships with people, communities, families, schools, teachers, parents, children, religious leaders of all faiths, community health workers - any well-intentioned human - who live in the farther corners of our society. We recognize that in our life, we do not get to choose who our parents are, or what culture we are born into; and we recognize that this is not a determinant of who should be seen, heard, supported, or loved. Utopia Foundation is a small team of innovative, dedicated do-ers who bypass bureaucracy and head straight into the conversations and actions with our partners.

  • Utopia Foundation believes that we need to get beyond racism, tribalism, and conditioned bias across borders. We believe in the connectedness of our world, in the wisdom of the Golden Rule and the African embodiment of Ubuntu. There are needs all over the world, and supporting our neighbors near and far is important to our mission of helping create a world that works for everyone. In particular, we acknowledge education as a non-enabling avenue for shifting mindsets to help build equitable societies. For example, Uganda spends less than $40.00 per student per year on education. The U.S. spends in excess of $10,000 per student per year on education. If you believe in the connectedness of our world, then we must set aside our bigotry and favoritism to help our neighbors around the globe, regardless of race, gender, tribe, religion, sexual orientation, ability, profession, or any other identity.

  • Utopia Foundation partnerships are relationship-oriented. We choose to support local champions who are striving to make sustainable, long-term impact in their communities. Champions who we support are focusing on initiatives in early childhood development and education, literacy, teacher training, parenting development, community development, and economic development. We are intentional in our partnerships as it is in our ethos to uplift and empower a person or a project's strengths and capabilities.

  • Utopia Foundation is not a grant making foundation. We partner with champions - local organizations, individuals, schools, and groups - through practical, meaningful relationships. We do not read grant solicitations or letters of intent. If you are interested in partnering with us, we ask that you simply write us a letter sharing your mission, vision, about yourself and project, and why you think your project is a match for Utopia Foundation. The letter should be from the organization’s Founder, Executive Director or Chairman with your contact information, website, and social media. Email your letter to Zaharah Namanda, Utopia Foundation Executive Director at zaharahnamanda@utopiafound.org.

  • Utopia Foundation remains anonymous in all funding. We seek donors who are mission-driven and action-minded. While we will share project updates occasionally, it is our priority to give value and attention to our champions and those recipients of each project. We believe that a donor must be intentional in their giving and reflect on their personal why of giving. Any amount is a great contribution to supporting our champions. For example, $1 will print 1 children's book for a young child. Currently, Utopia Foundation's donor-base remains anonymous.

  • If you are an individual or a small group with a great idea that needs a financial or resource partner, then send us a letter sharing your idea, vision, about yourself and project, how you would implement your idea, and why you think your idea is a match for Utopia Foundation. The letter should be from the organization’s Founder, Executive Director or Chairman with your contact information, website, and social media. Email your letter to Zaharah Namanda, Utopia Foundation Executive Director at zaharahnamanda@utopiafound.org.

  • Utopia Foundation does not have a religious affiliation; however, we have partnered with, and been financially supported by, religious organizations. We have also worked with religious organizations that have resources and infrastructure in some of the areas where we work. While we are nondenominational in our mission and work, we would say that Utopia Foundation believes in interfaith collaborations, when applicable.

  • A little about our manifesto...

Utopia Foundation is not in the "see what I did" business. We try to keep our work as local as possible and stay anonymously in the background, as much as possible. Our ethos from our founding has been about “helping people express their good intentions.” We do not list our funders nor the resource partners that provide Utopia Foundation with time, talent, resources, or financial support to help create a world where every person goes to bed with a full belly, feeling safe, loved, happy, and optimistic about tomorrow. Our work is about those we serve. Harry S Truman once said, “It's amazing what you can accomplish with pride and unselfishness—where you have people who don't care who gets the credit.” At our core, Utopia Foundation is practical and works to be as efficient as possible in using our resources.
