Care of a Northern Michigan Therapy Horse

$35 – One Farrier (Hoof Trimming) Visit for One Therapy Horse

PEACE Ranch uses abused, abandoned, and "throw away" horses (horses with no training or "value") for equine therapy programs. The process of rehabilitating these horses can sometimes be lengthy, depending on the severity of the individual horse's condition upon arrival. Once horses are restored physically and mentally, they are trained for therapy programs serving children and adults with a broad range of mental and physical disabilities. These programs are offered in collaboration with area agencies to all in need.

The therapeutic herd requires daily feed and healthcare. Horses eat appropriately a half-bale of hay per day plus vitamin/mineral supplements and grain. Healthcare includes regular vaccinations, dental care, worming and hoof care. These costs amount to about $1600 annually per horse. Care of the herd is PEACE Ranch's major overhead expense, as the facility is donated and volunteers comprise the staff. PEACE Ranch is committed to keeping its overhead low so that it can meet the community’s needs with no-cost and low-cost programs. Your participation in the care of the herd helps PEACE Ranch keep this commitment.
