The United Nations estimates that each person needs 5-13 gallons of safe freshwater each day to cover the basic needs of drinking, cooking and cleaning. Over one in six people worldwide don't have access to this basic minimum amount of safe freshwater. Globally, diarrhea is the leading cause of illness and death, an unfortunate result of drinking unsafe water, and water-borne diseases are the primary cause of death for children under the age of five.

To combat this problem, the Utopia Foundation is partnering with Rotary Clubs and Pure Water for the World to bring Hydraid® BioSand Water Filters to schools in Haiti.  These simple filters are lightweight, do not need electricity, have no moving parts, and dramatically reduce bacteria, parasites, and viruses in drinking water.  As one of the world’s most effective and proven water purification methods, one filter can deliver 100 gallons of safe water per day for over 10 years.

A $115 donation covers the cost of purchasing, shipping, and installing one filter, as well as providing critical education to users on basic hygiene and sanitation practices.
